Introduction to the course

Interested in all things digital media? This course will help you develop your skills in photography, filmmaking, audio recording and lighting for still and moving image. You’ll build an excellent foundation to progress onto a Level 3 course in Film & TV, Graphic & Digital Design or VFX.

You’ll learn:

  • How to plan and pitch your own ideas for a short film
  • How to light, shoot and edit your own short films
  • The skills to produce a portfolio of digital still photography
  • How to use Adobe Photoshop to manipulate images
  • The skills to record and edit audio for your own film productions
  • Film production processes

What you'll study

In this term you’ll learn the fundamentals of Photoshop to create your own graphics such as logos and poster designs. You’ll also gain an understanding of photography and the inner workings of a digital camera in order to create your own photography portfolio. Alongside this, you’ll work towards developing your communication skills through planning and pitching your short film for Term 2.

In this term you will learn about the film production process, developing an understanding of editing techniques and software, as well as gaining practical experience using cameras to shoot and edit your own production.

In this term you'll further develop your film and photography skills to produce a short film, and also a photography portfolio. Here, you'll bring together what you have learned in pre-production, recording audio, lighting and editing to highlight your skills in film and photography and then showcase them at the end of term show. You’ll also learn how to write for digital media such as blogs, websites and film scripts.
