Clearing 2020 | A-Level Results Day – What should I expect?

Thursday August 13, 2020

For those of you collecting results, it’ll probably be one of the most nerve-racking days for you so far! All the hard work comes down to this one moment – collecting that envelope with your results in!

We want to help get you ready for the day, to make it as calm as possible. So read on and make notes! We answer all the questions you need to know, here on our Clearing page – Do you need to confirm your place at university if you get your grades? What about if you miss out by a few points? And have you sorted accommodation and student finance?

If you have any questions, you can get in touch with us on our live chat or find out more about Clearing at Confetti on our website.

In the meantime, professional speaker Pam Burrows has given us her top five tips for staying calm and avoiding stress in the days leading up to Thursday 15 August.

  1. Breathe Better – 7/11

The fastest way to reduce stress is to breathe better. Breathe in for a count of 7, out for 11. This detoxes tension from the body. Relax your shoulders, soften your jaw, relax you whole body and follow the next step…

  1. Watch your thinking

Imagining it’s already a disaster? Instead think “Whatever happens, I can handle it.” Repeat this while you breathe 7/11. Choose to drop the drama, it’s not useful. You’re made of stronger stuff than you realise. Breathe 7/11 and thinking of times you’ve done well is a great way to get a better night’s sleep too.

  1. Keep the faith

You might get the result you’re hoping for. You might not. Whichever, there will be a way for you to have the life journey you’re meant to. Whether it’s the old plan, a new plan or a retake, results-wise “It is what it is”. Question is “What’s next?” You’re in the driving seat!

  1. Avoid other people’s drama!

Join in the drama and feel dreadful, walk away or suggest some of these tips to them. You choose! Be a ‘drop the drama’ champion and spread the love!

  1. Do something!

Go have a laugh, a swim, a bath, a game, a run, chat about something else…don’t sit about driving yourself crazy, you always have a choice about what you focus on. You can even find useful videos on YouTube!

Results Day checklist – what to have:

Hear about student Ellie Brown’s Clearing experience:

8am – Track goes live. You’ll be able to see your university confirmation. Although your marks won’t show on UCAS, so you’ll need to pick those up.

Morning onwards – Pick up your results. Check what time you can collect your results and get yourself down there. If you got your grades, go and celebrate; if you didn’t, don’t panic, there are other options.

Met your grades? Track will update to say you have been accepted into either your firm or insurance choice university and you will be able to view your confirmation letter in Track. Make sure you give this a read, it may contain information from your university about what to do next. If you have your student finance in place, there is now nothing left to do except celebrate and prepare for uni.

Missed your grades? Don’t panic – you can still get a place through Confetti Clearing. Give us a call on 0115 848 6000 and we can discuss your options. Check out our step-by-step guide to Clearing for more info.

What happens once you get your Clearing offer:

  • You’ll receive an email from NTU confirming your offer
  • Read through the conditions of your offer
  • Accept the offer ASAP on UCAS Track to secure your place
