Confetti lecturer signs to Bella Union Records

Friday September 1, 2023

One of our Music Performance degree lecturers, Jack Kenworthy, recently signed to UK-based independent record label, Bella Union.

Founded in 1997, Bella Union Records is home to an-amazing roster of talent: from The Flaming Lips to Father John Misty to Ezra Furman.

Jack Kenworthy lectures one day a week for us on our BA (Hons) Music Performance course. Before this, Jack kickstarted his musical education at Goldsmiths University where he studied Popular Music. He then went on to study a Masters in Electroacoustic Composition at Nottingham Trent University. With a wealth of the music knowledge behind him, Jack went on to form the band ‘Colouring’ serving as its singer, songwriter and keyboardist. The band focused on electropop sounds and released their first EP ‘Symmetry’ in 2016. Later that same year the band went on tour in North America supporting indie rock/pop sensation The 1975. In 2017, their song ‘Time’ was released for the soundtrack of the award-winning series 13 Reasons Why. ‘Colouring’ is now the solo venture of Kenworthy.

The first single from the deal, ‘Lune’ is now available to stream. The track was co-written by Gianluca Buccellati (Lana Del Rey, Declan Mckenna), a Grammy-nominated and Mercury Prize-winning American musician, record producer, songwriter, mixing engineer, audio engineer, and multi-instrumentalist. We were privileged to have Gianluca join us for last year’s Confetti Industry Week, where he delivered a masterclass for students. The connections don’t stop there, Gianluca co-produced Jack’s new single with Mikko Gordon (Arcade Fire, The Smile, Gaz Coombes), a London based mixing engineer and record producer who was responsible for this year’s Confetti-Denizen Single of the Year, performed by Confetti artist, Cam Mannix.

Congratulations to Jack who is ‘Doing It For Real’ in industry, we hope that he will inspire many Confetti students to do the same.

We caught up with Jack to get his thoughts on this exciting opportunity. Here’s what he had to say:

“I’m very excited about the new album that’s going to be coming out on Bella Union Records and to be able to do this as a job is the dream. It’s a privilege to be able to work with Confetti students and show them it is possible to have a career in music”
