Guest Speaker Series

Confetti’s college-level music students are invited to a series of fantastic guest lectures online this winter.

This term, Confetti are putting on their guest speaker series for Level 3 Audio & Music Technology students online, with a great lineup headlined by the GRAMMY Award-winning Roger Linn; a pioneer in the world of music technology who is set to deliver an exciting talk for our lucky students.

We’ve already enjoyed talks from Mikey Demus of Skindred, who spoke about what life is like on tour and the process of writing an album, and Keith Cooper, Music Publisher extraordinaire who has worked with the likes of Jurrasic Five, Queen Latifa, Jungle Brothers and many more.

These events are a great example of our Do It For Real ethos across all of our courses, where our students benefit from guest speakers from their chosen industry alongside key work experience opportunities.

Here some of the events students on this course can look forward to over the coming weeks…

Monday 9 November – Steve Cobby (Music Producer)

Steve is a producer, composer, musician and DJ, co-founding Fila Brazilia in 1990 with David McSherry. They went onto produce over 70 remixes for artists including Radiohead, Busta Rhymes and Simple Minds. His music has also been used in adverts for brands including Fiat and John Lewis Partnership.

Monday 16 November – Lewis Hampson (Producer and Audio Engineer)

Lewis has been a student at Confetti on the college and degree-level pathways and now works as a freelance recording engineer working for clients such as Amazon, recording audiobooks and editing dialogue for TV & film.

Monday 23 November – Dean Jackson (BBC Producer)

Dean is a well-known radio presenter hosting ‘The Beat’ show on BBC Radio Nottingham for 30 years breaking new music from the city and the surrounding areas. Dean will be discussing how to get your music heard on the radio, giving an insight into playlists and different avenues such as BBC introducing to get the student’s music heard.

Monday 30 November – Chris Warren (Mix engineer)

Chris ‘Bunny’ Warren has nearly a decade of audio industry experience, and will be taking the students through mixing a track from start to finish, looking at the processes involved, and examining the business process behind running and operating a commercial studio.

Monday 7 December – Roger Linn (Electronic Instrument and Equipment Designer)

Roger is one of the pioneers in instrument design and sampling creating the Linn Drum used by the likes of Prince and Madonna, to name a few. He developed the first MPC alongside AKI the MPC60 and had a large part in the development of midi with Dave Smith and Tom Oberheim. Roger will be discussing his life and what instruments he’s working on at the moment.

Monday 14 December – Burnski/Instinct (Remixer, Producer, Record Label Owner)

Burnski has been in the music industry for over 15 years, releasing on reputable labels and running his own label Constant sound. He has recently had success with his alter ego ‘Instinct’, releasing UK garage music and getting syncs with video games such as GTA. He will be discussing with students the art of remixing, looking at remix skills used and how to implement them.

We look forward to these online events, and are sure our students will gain insight and expertise from this impressive collection of speakers.
