How Confetti is supporting Women in Games

Thursday November 18, 2021

Women in Games is a UK-based community interest group on a mission to empower women, from all ethnicities and orientations, to achieve their full potential in the games and esports industries. Here at Confetti we are proud to have become Women in Games newest education ambassador!

A recent survey of the global top 15 Games Companies found that the number of women working in any role or competing in esports is around 5% or 1 in 20, and yet approximately 50% of players globally are women. Confetti tutors like Interim Postgraduate Course Leader, Kim Western, and HE Games Art Tutor, Amelia Roberts, have been instrumental in helping us to join forces with the Women in Games community. As an education ambassador we will work together with Women in Games to champion diversity in what is the most gender imbalanced of all creative industries.

“Games Technology courses have been part of our teaching provision for over a decade and this has now expanded to Games Art and most recently Esports. We are currently expanding; our new Confetti X complex will bring together years of expertise in content creation, streaming, and competitive gaming which will be open in early 2022.

“We are so excited to be an Academic Ambassador for Women in Games. As an institute, we believe in promoting more inclusive spaces on our courses, and supporting equal opportunities and diversity. We have female alumni now working in the games industry in diverse roles and for studios such as Sumo Digital, Supermassive Games, and Frontier Developments. Working with Women in Games, we are hoping to strengthen our agenda to empower our female talent studying on our courses.”

“Confetti is an incredibly forward-thinking creative education institute and we’re delighted that they are joining our fast-growing group of Women in Games Education Ambassadors. We are looking forward to working with them, their students and their team over the coming months.”
