Confetti’s been selected to represent the UK at KeSPA Global Esports Camp in South Korea! We’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be sending a group of BSc (Hons) Esports Production to the birthplace of esports, home to some of the world’s best professional esports teams and players.
The birthplace of ‘esports’
The Global Esports Camp will expand our students’ vision for the global esports industry and their understanding of the industry culture internationally. From Monday 22 to Friday 26 May, learners will experience a major esports stadium, the League of Legends Park in Seoul and Hall of Fame (pictured), and interact with the Gen.G professional players competing in the world’s biggest leagues for League of Legends and Tekken. They will also experience the world class KeSPA training program and most importantly of all, get the opportunity to apply their broadcast production skills during an exhibition tournament taking place with all global delegates involved in the bootcamp. This rich and vibrant esports experience will be complemented with trips to stunning cultural attractions and activities. Students will visit some of the most popular Korean tourist destinations, including Gyeongbokgung Palace, Blue House, and Gwanghwamun Square.
A window into global industry-leading broadcasts
BSc (Hons) Esports Production students Alex Calladine, Luca Saggiorato, James Frost, Rose Joy, and Joe Bone will be taking the 22-hour round trip to Seoul for the KeSPA Global Esports Camp. We caught up with several of the students to get their reactions and find out what they were most looking forward to:
“It was actually in a meeting of the KeSPA in 2000 when the term ‘esports’ was first used! It feels very special to be visiting somewhere so integral to the history of the industry that I am a part of, and I look forward to it immensely.” – Rose Joy, BSc (Hons) Esports Production student
“I’ve always wanted to visit South Korea since secondary school! I’m looking forward to experiencing South Korean culture and it’ll be great to see how massive a sport esports is over there. I especially can’t wait to see the Gen.G HQ and it’ll be amazing to see all of the technology being utilised in the venues and arenas that were designed specifically for esports.” – Luca Saggiorato, BSc (Hons) Esports Production student
“As a fan League of Legends (LoL) and Korean esports, it’s extremely exciting to have the opportunity to visit and experience Korean culture. I work in esports broadcast production and I’m very interested to see the venues and production technology behind their industry leading broadcasts. I’ve been watching the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) for nearly a decade and to have the opportunity to visit LoL Park and the Gen G headquarters to meet some of the esports personalities is very exciting!” – Alex Calladine, BSc (Hons) Esports Production student
Students Do It For Real on a global stage
With the support of our Confetti esports education team, tech team and support staff, our BSc (Hons) Esports Production students have helped set a high broadcast standard for esports through a growing portfolio of global esports events. Examples include last year’s Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports Masters Finals and the first-ever Commonwealth Esports Championships. That’s without mentioning the long list of national esports events; the British Esports Student Champs Grand Finals and the Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports UK&I Winter 2022 and Spring 2023 seasons; hosted and broadcasted live from our new esports complex, Confetti X.
The opportunity is being provided by our partners at British Esports Federation (BEF) with the backing of the South Korean government. Our Esports Manager and HE Course Leader, Gin Rai, has been coordinating the trip with the BEF and Global Esports, and will be accompanying the students on the trip.
Gin Rai said:
“This enrichment opportunity is well deserved and a great example of how our work with national and international partners creates exclusive opportunities for students to work alongside professionals at key events and make connections with leading industry figures.”
We wish Gin and students all the best on what will no doubt be a game changing experience!
