Confetti hosted the Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports UK&I Spring Finals 2023

We were thrilled to welcome back Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports UK & Ireland to campus for another successful and ground-breaking event!

Together with our partners NUEL and GGTech, we hosted the 2023 University Spring Finals at our new esports complex, Confetti X. Students, esports enthusiasts and members of the general public purchased over 250 tickets to watch the top university teams in the UK compete.

Taking place over two days (22-23 April), the Finals featured top esports titles League of Legends and VALORANT, not to mention the culmination of the Women & Non-Binary VALORANT tournament – the first of its kind in the UK. Opening its doors for the first-time, attendees were able to enjoy our brand new Confetti X first-floor facilities including the Atrium (pictured below) where we had PC’s set up for spectators to play games on a University open competition.

The Spring Finals were the culmination of a tournament with over one hundred UK Universities competing. Teams put their skills to the test for thousands of pounds in prize money and a chance to represent Great Britain in the Last Chance Qualifier of the prestigious Amazon UNIVERSITY Esports Masters in May. As part of the event, we were proud to welcome an NTU team, ‘the Undateables’, who brought home the glory winning the Open VALORANT competition!

Off the back of the successful Winter Finals in December 2022, we were delighted to collaborate once again with NUEL on the event production and broadcast, creating hundreds of hours worth of ‘Do It For Real‘ opportunities for learners studying BSc (Hons) Esports ProductionBSc (Hons) Event Production, and BA (Hons) Content Creation. We caught up with NUEL Managing Director, David Jackson, for a word on student involvement, he said:

“There’s so many aspects in which the students are able to work on the events.

“My broadcast manager is a second-year Confetti student and our content creator is a second-year Confetti student. Behind the scenes on the production side, in most of those roles it’s a Confetti student in the chair or it’s a Confetti student who’s observing while they work.

“Together with Confetti, our respective experiences and resources are a great fit to help support the next generation of students who are poised to shape the industry.”

Thank you to all of the students involved and to everyone that came along and helped make the weekend a success – check out some great photos from the Finals below:
