Industry Week 2020 – Day 1

Industry Week 2020 is upon us, and we’ve kicked off with some great talks and presentations on day 1. Have a look at just a few of the events we’ve enjoyed today and what the highlights have been so far…

Stephen Graham

Legendary actor Stephen Graham kicked off the Monday of Industry Week with a fantastic talk in Metronome’s auditorium. He spoke about working on a number of amazing films and TV series from This Is England’ to ‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘The Irishman’ and ‘The Virtues’, and brought the audience to tears – mostly of laughter – regaling stories of his journey as an actor.

It’s safe to say the atmosphere was buzzing, with every seat full and crowds of students wanting to ask questions and introduce themselves.

A huge thank you to Stephen for delivering such a great talk to start the week!

Hannah Brodrick

Freelance live sound engineer and tour manager Hannah spoke to students about what pursuing a career in sound engineering involves – and we have to admit, it really does sound fascinating.

Students really enjoyed the talk, and we learned a thing or two, too!

Adam Dewhirst

VFX students were wowed by Adam Dewhirst’s talk about the work he produced at Double Negative for the film ‘Hobbs and Shaw’.

Adam not only showed students some exciting footage from the films and spoke about how these scenes were built, but he gave some great advice about how to achieve quality work, on time and on budget.

Jeanie Finlay

The documentary filmmaker who created ‘Game of Thrones: The Last Watch’ and ‘Seahorse’ spoke about her love of learning the stories of quieter people, and how she keeps focused on the documentaries she’s making during long periods of filming by always carrying her camera around to remind her – and her subjects – of the task at hand.

Callum Hancock

Callum is a Confetti alumni who now works at Cloud Imperium, and his talk was really relevant for games students in the audience looking for their next move after graduating. We’re pleased to see how well he’s doing, and are sure he provided inspiration for those soon to graduate in the audience.

We also enjoyed a whole host of other talks, including Wigflex Festival’s Avarni, Photography Director Gerry Vasbenter, Concept Artist James Lewis-Vines, music industry expert Eric Longley, social media guru Alex McCann and even the popular Gamer Gamer event.
