Confetti students complete successful placement at STENCIL

Tuesday May 19, 2020

A group of Confetti students have completed a work placement at Nottingham creative agency STENCIL. Find out how they got on below.

In the months before – and the time during – the current lockdown, some Confetti students went to work at STENCIL agency in Nottingham’s super-cool Sneinton Market.

During the placement, the students learned about the entire creative branding process, what is takes to build a great brand and how to execute creative campaigns successfully, on time and within budget.

Managing Director at STENCIL Andy Afford sung the students’ praises.

All three of our interns have been superstars. Finley and Stephanie joined us from the off, with Alex coming aboard after a little while somewhere else.

We have a young staff generally – it’s part of the business’ purpose to offer meaningful opportunity to young creatives – and in that we consider ourselves good at supporting our people. And in enabling them to give of their best, the working atmosphere is everything. Confidence-wise, they’ve all really found their feet as they’ve got into the rhythm of what is a busy design studio and what our expectations are of them.

They’ve all proved hugely capable – even going as far as saying they are as good as ‘work ready’, already. We wish and expect nothing but great things of them all in the future.”

BTEC Level 3 Graphic & Digital Design student Steph jumped at the chance to gain experience at such a fantastic agency.

On this placement, I had the opportunity to explore the varied needs a client may present. For example I could be editing images for a magazine one day but drawing illustrations for a menu the next. I could be discussing the layout of a page for a sports company or creating icons for a logistics company, the opportunities were vast.

In my opinion the placement enriched both my confidence and my CV. I discovered in University interviews that they liked the fact the placement was a step up from work experience – it demonstrated my commitment to my career path and proved I was working to make sure I understood the industry.

I feel this experience enhanced my overall Confetti experience. Lessons can teach you theory and base skills in industry standard software like the Adobe suite. This placement put me into “the arena” of the graphic design industry.
