The people of Nottingham came together to have fun and raise funds for causes close to our hearts. Even when rain threatened to spoil the day, the sun shone through and the streets of Hockley swelled with street performers, drums and dancing.
350 acts entertained audiences across 30 venues – including our very own Metronome – raising money for worthwhile causes including Emmanuel House, Base 51, SFiCE Foundation, B’Me Cancer Communities and Imara.
Over 50 students supported with the coverage and technical running of Hockley Hustle, on courses ranging from BSc (Hons) Event Production, to BSc (Hons) Film Production Technology, BSc (Hons) Television Production Technology and BA (Hons) Content Creation.
Festival activities really showed off Nottingham’s diversity, with everything from drag bingo, to a spoken word collective and a legendary reggae sound system.
More than 20 tastemakers – including BBC Introducing’s Dean Jackson – came together to showcase the best of Nottingham talent with every genre of music represented. The bill included many Confetti artists – a mixture of current students and alumni – each of them honing their craft, building their fanbases, and doing their bit for charity.
With the support of their tutors, our Technical Events – BTEC Level 3 students also leant their expertise, managing sound, lighting and mixing at The Kilpin Beer Café and Hockley Arts Club.
All in all, Confetti students racked up an incredible 400 hours of work experience! Check out some great photos of the day below:
The proceeds from Hockley Hustle 2022 will be used to help our community and countless vulnerable people. We’re grateful to the festival organisers for letting us be part of the event and for providing our students with lots of valuable Do It For Real opportunities.
“All our student volunteers were fantastic, and we would like to thank each and every one for their efforts and enthusiasm throughout the day. It has not gone unnoticed and it is because of people who volunteer that we are able to provide such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere to all festival attendees.
“Confetti students also massively supported the management team as well. I hope they enjoyed the day as much as we were thrilled to have them on board.
“We had some wonderful feedback on how friendly and attentive they were to all. Please pass on our heartfelt thanks and we look forward to working with them again.” – Carys (Volunteer Manager), Tommy & Ben (Festival Organisers)
