About James

Deciding to study the FdSc TV Production Technology degree at Confetti was one of the best decisions I ever made, it was exactly what I was looking for when deciding where I wanted to study. The quality of the teaching, the support and encouragement you get from the tutors and staff is second to none.

Throughout my time at Confetti, I have pushed myself to undertake a wide variety of projects, take on several different production roles, and strived to achieve the best results possible. My projects include live studio recordings, a documentary, music performances, a magazine show and a short film. All of these projects have challenged me in different ways, and have given me the opportunity to learn the skills required to develop as professional.

James’ Degree Showcase Work

Among the work I exhibited at this year’s Showcase was my documentary and my short film ‘The Big Lie’. My documentary focused on the role of local news programmes, and asked questions about what the human interest stories bring to such programmes, and whether or not it should be called news.

My short film was the first drama I have made. It was something I found quite challenging, however, having now worked through the production process, I feel that I would be a lot more comfortable working on similar projects in the future. The film follows married couple Nancy and Jonathan Jackson as they attempt to resolve the problems in their marriage, but their chosen councillor may not be the right man for the job.

As I prepare to progress onto the BSc Television Production Technology top up degree, I plan on maintaining a positive and enthusiastic approach to both my studies and projects. I will also be building the profile of my production company Top Dog Pictures, and will be seeking out as many different opportunities as I can within the media industry.
