Music degree students invited to online session with A&R legend Colin Barlow

Colin Barlow

Confetti’s degree-level music students are invited to an exciting session with Colin Barlow this December.

As part of the last week of term for our degree students, on Thursday 10 December, we’re proud to welcome one of the top industry executives of the modern era who’ll talk music degree students through the A and R process, and explain what a label does for the artist.

Colin Barlow was just 17 years old when he took his first job as a talent scout for CBS records. After this, he was swiftly poached by Warner Music, before setting up Wildcard Records in 1990, where he signed The Lighthouse Family.

He joined Polydor in 1992 where he continued to work with the Lighthouse Family, as well as pop sensations Boyzone and Girls Aloud. In 1997, he was promoted to Joint Managing Director of Polydor, leading the company through the most successful period in its history, working with The Kaiser Chiefs, The Scissor Sisters, Snow Patrol, The Klaxons, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Queens of the Stone Age, Dr Dre and many more.

Colin Barlow joined Sony Music as Managing Director of RCA Records in 2012. Since then RCA has released David Bowie‘s first no 1 album in 10 years, as well as growing the careers of a swathe of new talent such as Paloma Faith, Laura Mvula, Bring Me The Horizon and Pharell Williams.

We can’t wait to welcome Colin, and are sure the lucky students will learn a great deal from his session!
