In the morning, our very own Confetti Esports Manager and HE Course Leader, Gin Rai took part in an interesting panel discussion exploring the academic opportunities available within the esports sector, the routes they follow, and their applications within compulsory and vocational education.
Other sessions that took place included health and wellbeing in gaming, accessibility, inclusion and diversity, and a look into how sport and esports can be mutually beneficial. Later on in the day, guests found out more about the forthcoming Commonwealth Esports Championships and discussed the connections between UK and global esports. What followed was a video address from none other than the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, Dame Louise Martin, she said:
“We are delighted that the Commonwealth Games will be formally partnering with esports for the first time this summer when we stage the inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championships (CEC) in Birmingham. We believe the Commonwealth Games and esports can partner to create an inclusive, progressive and visionary future for the entire Commonwealth. Through our engagement, our future is more exciting than ever!”
We recently announced the fantastic news that, in advance of the CEC Finals in Birmingham on August 6 – 7, the qualifying rounds will be taking place right here at Confetti! Find out more about this news here.
The whole day’s worth of activity during the Esports in Education Summit was broadcast on Zoom, with Senior Leaders, Curriculum Managers, Lecturers, as well as Team Coaches, from across the UK, tuning in to discuss the impact, developments and opportunities available in competitive gaming and esports in schools and colleges.
Lots of Confetti students leant their technical expertise to the event production and live broadcast, here’s what one of our 1st Year BSc Esports Production students had to say:
