At Confetti, your safety is our number one priority.
As part of Safeguarding Awareness Week we’re sharing our top tips for keeping yourself safe in a digital world.
Why is online safety important?
We know that being online, especially being on social media, is a huge part of your lives. Whilst these platforms can be a great place to learn about your interests, be creatively inspired, and connect with your friends, it’s important to be aware of how to keep yourselves safe from online abuse.
Online abuse can present in different ways including:
- Bullying
- Grooming
- Emotional Abuse
- Sexual exploitation
How to keep yourself safe online
Think about what you are sharing before you post it.
Don’t post information that you wouldn’t be comfortable with a stranger knowing. It’s also important to be considerate of others – don’t post information about other people that is not yours to share and don’t post content that is unkind to others.
Know who you are speaking to
Be aware of fake profiles and raise any concerns you have with a trusted adult. Never give out personal information or agree to meet up with people you don’t know.
Speak up
If you are concerned about something you or a friend have experienced online, please speak to Student Services or a trusted adult. Even if you’re not sure, it’s always best to get advice.
