2023 is shaping up to be a great year for our undergraduate music students! In a string of exciting guest-lectures and studio sessions organised by our music tutors, students will get the opportunity to learn from several industry professionals, including Kasabian and Paramore producer, Steph Marziano, and many more. We’ve put together a rundown of some of the activities coming up in the build-up to this year’s Confetti Industry Week.
Friday 3 February: Guest producer session with Steph Marziano
Steph Marziano is a writer, producer and mixer who has worked on some well-established projects including the most recent Haley Williams album, where she helped co-write three of the songs. Originating from Philadelphia, Steph moved to Liverpool where she studied Sound Technology, before moving to London where she since has gone on to be a part of countless projects including Kasabian’s no.1 album ‘For Crying Out Loud’ and her first produced, engineered and mixed album ‘We Used To Bloom’ by Denai Moore.
Friday 10 February: Tileyard Songwriting Camps
Our friends at Tileyard Education will be coming in to deliver a songwriting camp. In this session, Tileyard will work with you and offer advice on the process of commercial songwriting. These sessions come off the back of our new scholarships for 3rd year BSc (Hons) Audio & Music Technology and BA (Hons) Music Performance students in partnership with Tileyard – learn more about our Tileyard music scholarships.
Friday 3 March: Adrian Bushby
Well known for his work with Muse, Foo Fighters and The Darkness; Adrian will be guiding students through the process of recording a song from scratch. Attendees will benefit from Adrian’s years of experience mixing and producing tracks for internationally famed artists. The session topics include mic techniques and getting the best from the artist.
Friday 17 March: Phil and Robin from Snug / JT Soar:
Snug is a recording studio based in Nottingham, UK run by Robin Newman and Richard Collins, who between them have decades of experience playing/touring and working in studios. Producers Phil and Robin will work with a Music Performance band using BSc (Hons) Audio and Music Technology students as assistants to talk through the production process from start to finish as it happens. This is another great opportunity to get your questions answered and pick up industry tips by the team that has worked with the Sleaford Mods.
