Our talented Event Production degree students, Clara Sousa-Shaheed and Becky Winrow, recently joined the Robe UK lighting team as NRG Ambassadors for the TPi Awards at Battersea Evolution.
The TPi Awards
The TPi Awards is one of the world’s largest in-person events for the touring industry. With nearly 2000 attendees each year, this annual celebration recognises the incredible achievements of everyone working behind the scenes in live touring. During this event, Clara was in charge of creating a lighting design for the bar area, enhancing the atmosphere and setting the mood for the social space. Meanwhile, Becky worked alongside fellow NRG Ambassadors on the RoboSpot team, participating in the exciting task of spotlighting the award winners!
Next Robe Generation
This isn’t the first time Robe UK have collaborated with our students, as they run a free networking community, set up to share its knowledge and experience of the UK lighting industry with the next generation of young professionals looking to work in the entertainment lighting world – this is called the Next Robe Generation (NRG).
This is the third time our second year Event Production degree student, Clara, has benefitted from training and mentorship with NRG. In September 2023, Clara represented Robe UK at PLASA Show, the country’s leading international trade event for live entertainment technology. In December 2023, she also got a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating Strictly Come Dancing!
Both Clara and Becky had a fantastic time at the TPi Awards where they gained hands-on training and valuable industry insights. Here’s what Clara said about the experience:
“Working as an NRG student on the TPI awards was a lot of fun, and a realistic insight into the high-pressure environment. As the bar designer, I felt I had the ideal level of responsibility, working alongside Nathan Wan. Thank you to the NRG organisers and Robe team for always being supported, and I can’t wait to be back next year experiencing it as a guest!”

Event Production Senior Lecturer, Rob Baldock, was thrilled with the student’s involvement at the event and said:
“What an amazing opportunity for two of our students to take part in this – the live events industry’s biggest night out! Showcasing their skills and talent in front of the who’s who of the live event industry, Becky and Clara really did Confetti proud.”
A massive thanks to Jane Monk, Initiative Manager at NRG and the team at Robe UK for providing our students with this experience. As well as, our Event Production Senior Lecturer, Rob Baldock and Work Placement Manager, Lucy Greaves, for helping arrange this opportunity.
