Skills Building

In the first assignment we will assess your basic skills and knowledge across the distinct areas of Camera, Sound and Lighting. Understanding basic techniques across these areas of production will provide you with the necessary skills to move on through the rest of the course. You will be given different scenarios through your workshops, which you will need to respond to, document and demonstrate your skills, leading up to the filming of a test scene.

Recreate a Scene

Now that you have demonstrated an understanding of the basic practices of practical and theoretical film, you will work in a small crew to research, plan, shoot and edit a classic movie scene. You will work in a production role on this assignment and will produce a final edit of your own. This will be your first attempt at analysing film and applying it to practice.

Skills Showcase

You will produce a 3-5 minute; Horror scene, Sci-Fi scene or Music Video. Your chosen production will conform to accepted conventions of the genre or format you choose and it is up to you to demonstrate this in your final production through the application of your acquired skills from the first two terms.

Short Production

In term three, you will work in a small team to plan, shoot and edit a short 4 – 6 minute production. You will research and apply the standards of a well-established genre, such as; Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Documentary etc. Primarily, this is a creative project but also an opportunity to implement all that you have learned so far and bring this to the screen.

Personal Progression

You will demonstrate your own personal progression towards a career within Film and Television. This means investigating career paths and planning a suitable route into industry. You’ll also need to assemble a portfolio of your work, which you will exhibit as part of Confetti’s Celebrate Student Exhibition. Through this assignment, you’ll demonstrate your readiness to take on the next stage of your personal progression.

Corporate and Advertising

For this assignment, you will respond to a live creative brief. In a Do It For Real fashion, you will be encouraged to source your own creative brief through local businesses and brands, which allows you to create either an advertising or corporate video. You will need to consider target audience, platforms for exhibition and work in a team and liaise with your client to ensure your final product aligns with their needs. You will also need to choose a role to work in and then plan, produce and edit your work.

Short Film Production

Your final assignment on the course is the biggest and boldest. This assignment will allow you total creative freedom to plan and produce a 5-10 minute Short Film, using all the skills you have developed over the course. You can choose any genre you wish as a group, and individually, you will research, practice and perform in a production role of your choosing. Upon completion, you will be encouraged to submit your Short Film into a local competition or film festival, giving you one more real-world experience within the film and television industry before you embark on your exciting journey as filmmakers after Confetti.
