Jake Bugg returns to Nottingham for intimate Q&A with Confetti students

Last night we welcomed Nottingham’s very own Jake Bugg to Metronome, Confetti’s commercial live and events venue. A decade since he became the youngest British male solo artist to debut in the album chart at number 1, he came back to speak about the music industry and complete a Q&A session offering unique insight into the workings of the music world.

The evening was hosted by Dean Jackson from BBC Radio Nottingham, who himself played a big role in the discovery of Jake Bugg and continues to support upcoming local artists himself.

Confetti students were given the opportunity to attend this event for free, as part of our work to give students access to industry professionals and knowledge that can help them further their career. Jake Bugg has had a fascinating career, he has been around the world and seen everything there is to see – from playing Glastonbury to touring with Noel Gallagher.

This event was a preview into our annual Industry Week, which consists of countless industry professionals coming in to interact with Confetti students, at college, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

“I think all the events are very important for upcoming musicians and young people. I know myself, from some of the amazing opportunities I’ve had from BBC Introducing, some of the masterclasses and hearing from some of the people who are actually in the industry. It’s a very important thing.” – Jake Bugg

“I think it’s great, I think it’s important to get musicians on stage and whenever we do a gig here it sells out. We also always have a large crew made up of students, from the visuals to the lighting and sound. It’s great that we are helping students both on stage and off-stage.” – Dean Jackson, BBC Introducing

After the event we spoke to a couple of students, who managed to get their hands on these exclusive tickets:

“As a young musician, I found it very beneficial to hear his personal experience of being in the music scene. Knowing that he started as a local musician playing small pub gigs to now playing arenas and massive tours gives my age group inspiration to keep working on our music and to not give up if we hit a rough patch. It’s nice to see how such a famous person can stay so down to earth.”  – Ellie Stainsby, FdA Music Performance

“It’s nice to see someone who is as successful as Jake, actually explain what he had to go through to get to the point he is. It really brought it down to a human level and it felt more personal.” – Harvey Steele, BSc (Hons) Audio and Music Technology

To add to the experience, BSc (Hons) Content Creation students also had the chance to join in the event and supported the Confetti Marketing team with videos and photos for socials.
