Nottingham’s Top Influencers in The Entertainment and Cultural Industries

Wednesday September 14, 2016

The Nottingham Post has released it’s list of the most influential people working in the entertainment and cultural sector in Notts.

 Guess what?

It reads like our little black book of friends, partners and Industry Week guests and we are chuffed to see our Chief Executive Officer, Craig Chettle make the list (he’s pretty high up as well!).

We’ll give you a little break down of how we’re connected with these influencers to make sure you get the best experience when studying with us!

Craig Chettle – CEO of Confetti Media Group

You may not have seen him yet but if you study here it probably won’t be long before you bump into Confetti’s boss and founder Craig Chettle. A former music producer and sound engineer, Craig set up Confetti as a specialist music institute over 22 years ago. It has developed into a renowned creative industry centre, now teaching music, film, TV, games, live & technical events and visual effects.

Craig also heads up a number of commercial businesses which are all part of the Confetti family– Nottingham’s successful television station Notts TV, film and TV production company Spool, record label Denizen, creative business hub Antenna and education furniture design and manufacturer Constellations. He also chairs Nottingham’s Creative Quarter, so when we say we’re hooked up to industry, we are REALLY hooked up to industry.

All of these commercial businesses offer you unique opportunities to get first-hand industry experience, from getting signed to our record label, to working behind the scenes on live TV programmes and meeting creative businesses to establish great contacts. And while Craig  still runs the companies, they are now owned by Nottingham Trent University so the Confetti experience is getting bigger and better all the time.

Shane Meadows – Director and Industry Week ’14 Guest

It’s absolutely no suprise to see BAFTA award winner Shane in this list. Responsible for directing films such as Dead Man’s Shoes (which Spool did the audio post-production for, may we add) and This Is England (oh yeah Spool on that one too), along with the follow up TV series, Shane is a Notts LEGEND. He is also renowned for using Notts actors and musicians in his films, including Confetti TV & Film Ambassador Vicky McClure and Industry Week ’16 guest Scor-Zay-Zee.

In 2014, Shane came to our Industry week to share some of his knowledge and advice with students in one of the highlight seminars of the week!

Jake Bugg – Musician & Confetti Music Ambassador

Confetti Music ambassador Jake once said, ‘If you want to get ahead in music, get into Confetti’ and he wasn’t wrong.

Jake has helped put Nott’s on the musical map and has proved you don’t have to go down south to make it big in music.

Henry Normal – Film and TV Producer, Writer and Poet

Confetti TV & Film students got a real treat last year when Henry came in to share his advice on working in the TV industry. Co-writer/producer of numerous successful TV shows including The Royal Family, The Mighty Boosh, Gavin & Stacey and Alan Partridge, and the Oscar-nominated Philomena, Henry’s talk was hilarious and inspiring showing that a normal boy from St Ann’s can make it BIG in TV.

Henry also worked with Craig Chettle on Nottingham’s inagural poetry festival, which saw renowned acts from across the UK come to perform alongside Notts poets and also provided plenty of opportunities for students to get involved in filming for Notts TV.

See Henry’s performance online now.

Jonny Owen – Director/Producer

Former Notts TV producer Jonny directed ‘I Believe in Miracles’ , which was produced by Spool and Baby Cow Productions. Well received by Forest fans around the world the film enjoyed success alongside the book of the same name and had a number of high profile viewings at The City Ground and Broadway Cinema.

Sleaford Mods – Musicians & Industry Week 2015 Guests

Post-punk duo Seaford Mods provided one of our 2015 Industry Week headline seminars giving their down to earth no nonsense take on the music industry. One of only three Notts bands to sell out Nottingham’s legendary Rock City (going Jake Bugg and Saint Raymond), Sleaford Mods have recently signed to indie label Rough Trade (with a branch just up the road from Confetti). See Jason’s chat with Notts TV’s Nicola Beswisck for even more music industry straight talking from front man Jason.

Nic Harvey – Television Workshop (Industry Week 2016 Guest – Sheep Soup)

Director of The Television Workshop, Nic also founded Nottingham theatre company Sheep Soup. They attended Industry Week 2016 to put on an amazing workshop for our Film Production and Acting students, helping them develop their skills infront of the camera!

They are good friends of Confetti and regularly pop in to give guest lectures and seminars.

So, all in all a huge CONGRATULATIONS to our amazing friends and partners!
