Earlier in June, some of our Live and Technical Events students enjoyed a talk from Peri Birtles – Record Producer, Artist Manager, Tour Manager & Live Sound Engineer extrordinaire.
Peri is a multi-talented individual, so when Live and Technical Events students got the chance to hear from him in a two-hour online talk, there was a lot to learn.
Based in Leicester, Peri has worked closely with band Easy Life since they first began. The band who were signed by Island Records (Universal Music Group) have been touring internationally since they began in 2017, including performances at Glastonbury Festival and Governors Ball Music Festival in New York.
At the start of their journey, Peri explained that he was covering all the technical roles for the band – acting as their Tour Manager, Front of House Engineer, Backline Tech…the list goes on. As time went on, and the band’s success grew, he was able to grow the team.
So how does somebody get to work on the technical side of gigging with bands like this? Peri explained:
“It’s all about acting on your feet, and having the right attitude. If you have a good attitude, others will be more willing to help you – and you’ll make a good name for yourself in the industry.”
In this brilliant talk, Peri went on to answer questions directly from the students, which we are sure will help them in future roles within the industry. Thank you, Peri!
