On Wednesday 22 January, Confetti was visited by a team of the world’s Esports creators, influencers and industry moguls for a tour of our facilities and a talk for students and staff.
Chester King – CEO of the British Esports Association – was joined by Dave Martin, Head of Skills, and Mark “Garvey” Candella who is Director of Student and Education Programmes at Twitch, the world’s leading live streaming platform.
The group toured Confetti, and following this Garvey delivered an energetic and inspiring talk to staff and students at the main Confetti building where he commented on the brilliant facilities throughout the campus.
“The whole set-up here has impressed me! We are – and I am – really excited to work with Confetti going forward as part of the project to bring Esports ‘alive’ in the UK.”
He went on to talk about Twitch as a platform, and how successful it has been; something that the students listening knew all about.
“We have three million broadcasters, but a community of around 400 million, consuming an average of two hours of content per day on our platform.
“This really is an exciting time to be working – and living – in digital industries, and you students are the creatives and collaborators who will be leading the way on the next chapter of producing great content for streaming platforms, whether you’re a musician, gamer or whatever else.”
Games Course Leader, Gin Rai, helped arrange the successful visit, and is excited at how this may pave the way for collaboration between Confetti and British Esports plus Twitch.
“Yesterday’s visit by Mark ‘Garvey’ Candella and Chester King was a great success on so many levels. In the run up to the development of our new and exciting courses alongside expanding Confetti’s reach, it was great receiving such high praise in what we are doing and what we have, alongside opening up new opportunities for collaboration. Garvey was and is a truly passionate human being, who charged both staff and students with contagious energy! We’re very excited about the future of Confetti.”
