Thanks to our close relationship with Notts TV – Nottinghamshire’s very own TV channel, some of our talented students get quality hands-on, real industry experience in all aspects of digital television production. Let’s have a look at some of the content our students have recently worked on…

Notts On Stage | Watch it here

Our students have gained great experience working on Notts TV’s monthly show Notts On Stage – where video journalist Danielle Hall goes backstage for all the best performances in Nottingham. Danielle was very pleased with our students’ efforts on set:

“The students undertake a variety of roles on a Notts On Stage shoot, from sound and vision mixing to operating cameras, as well as, of course, helping with setting up and packing away. All of these roles are vital to the successful recording of the programme and the students I’ve worked with so far have been a joy to work with. I look forward to working with them more over the coming months.”

Rediscovering Notts | Watch it here

Our students have been involved in Rediscovering Notts – a show that visits the battlefields, monuments and hidden ruins which shaped Notts life – almost from the beginning of the series back in December.

Channel Manager, Chris Breese, has been impressed with how our students have coped with a professional environment:

“They have filled various roles from mixing sound and acting as runners to camera operators and assistant producers. Each episode is shot entirely on location, which is demanding but exciting and interesting to shoot each time, and every one of them has risen to the challenge admirably.

The way each episode relies on various different interviewees, tricky locations and even the weather gives them a feel for what life is really like in a world which is full of creativity and imagination, but ultimately also dictated by strict deadlines and timescales.

All of them have been a pleasure to work with, made a real and lasting contribution to the show, and shown great willingness to learn.”

In the Notts TV Studio

Our students have had plenty of opportunities to work on Notts TV’s shows based in their TV Studio. They’ve recently worked on Sports Week – a weekly round-up of sport, and Team Talk – a football debate by pundits and fans, as well as Notts Fight Night – a brand-new show which features pro boxing highlights, news and interviews with Nottinghamshire’s brightest fighting stars.

The first episode of Fight Night was recorded on Thursday 24 May and students worked as sound mixers, autocue operators, lighting operators, camera operators and dolly operators.

If you’re going to be a degree student studying Film Production, Television Production or Visual Effects Production in September, you’ll be able to apply for work experience with Notts TV during your induction week.
