VFX guest speakers inspire our aspiring artists #ConfettiSpeaker

VFX Supervisor James Mac

This year we have organised a series of talks and workshops from professionals and alumni working in the visual effects industry. Hopefully from the sessions our students will go away with a greater knowledge and understanding of the industry and what it takes to forge a successful career.

James Mac – VFX Supervisor

James Mac works for the award winning creative technology and VFX studio The Mill and gave a brilliant lecture about how to effectively respond to a brief. He followed this up with a workshop, chatting to groups about their ideas. He provided feedback and ideas for improvement, covering both technical and creative aspects of the students’ work.

“James is creative, inspiring and full of infectious energy, he’s been an industry week guest for us multiple times now and is firmly a student favourite! I really wanted to get his ideas and feedback on student ideas as well as letting us know insider information on how The Mill respond to a brief.” Jacky Gurr, Level 3 VFX and Animation Course Leader.

Tori Aspinall – Confetti Alumni/Apprentice Junior 2D Artist

Tori studied on the Level 3 VFX & Animation course and it was during this time she joined many external opportunities such as BFI Academy, giving her the opportunity to interview for jobs in London. This experience led to her working on the latest Star Wars film with Lucas Arts. She now works for Double Negative and works in the TV department; in the last year she has worked on Black Mirror and Dark Crystal among others.

During her visit she gave insight to our second-year Visual Effects Degree students on her story and gave them tips and advice about what she thinks is vital for being successful.
