Confetti at Splendour Festival 2018!

Once again, we had the pleasure of sponsoring Splendour on Saturday 21 July. Nottingham’s favourite festival celebrated its tenth year with the 20,000 people that attended and with an amazing bill of artists and bands spread across the main, acoustic and our very own Confetti stage. Splendour first graced Wollaton Park in 2008 with headliners, Paulo Nutini and Kate Nash and shortly after in 2012, we’ve been very proud to be main sponsors!

Here’s a look at our highlights of what turned out to be a perfect and productive summer’s day…

Student Opportunities

This year we had 50 students from across both college and degree courses working in various different roles. Our students worked relentlessly in preparation for the festival and throughout the day to make sure the stages were set and ready for yet another awesome line-up on the Confetti stage. Altogether, there was 990 work experience clocked up by all students involved!

Our Technical Events students spent the time before the big day setting up the stage lighting, sound and controlled the behind-the-scenes technology. All were busy setting up, helping run and recording each stage, including the Acoustic Rooms and Comedy stage from start to finish. Some were assisting with the production of each stage whilst some were liaising with artists and assisting Notts TV with interviews and content creation on the main stage.

Our Technical events college student, Jack who ran a full multi-track recording of the Confetti stage, spoke on his experience working on the Confetti stage:

“The experience was amazing and I’m so grateful for it, it was a real insight to the industry on a large scale. Personally, I’d do it all again any day. I didn’t fully know what I’d be getting myself into that day, neither did many of us to be fair, but I think we can all agree it was well worth taking that chance.”

Once again, Jackie P, Kemet FM host, joined us to present our Confetti stage. She kept the crowd pumped and carried out some fun backstage interviews with the likes of Peace, our very own college students band Clonk!, Music Performance degree student Bria Buxton and the energetic Don’t Forget Rupert to name a few. Here’s what Jackie P had to say about her day with us:

“Working with the Confetti students allowed my day at Splendour to run very smoothly, it was a pleasure to work alongside such dedicated soldiers, who know exactly what they are doing and guided me throughout the day. Confetti means community, it was great to see students and staff working wonderfully together.”

Jackie P wasn’t our only guest of honour, we had the pleasure of having our Confetti Ambassador and BAFTA-winning actress, Vicky McClure join us on the day. Vicky clearly had a great time whizzing around on the waltzers and dropping in for a chat with Notts TV in what she described as her ‘favourite city’.

Industry experience lies at the core of our courses, offering our ambitious talented students the opportunity to get real industry experience during their studies and Splendour 2018 gave them the perfect platform to do so. Our Head of Talent Development, Alison Whitlock, who manages the student opportunities within Splendour shared her thoughts on the day:

“It was a privilege to see so many Confetti students working so hard again at Splendour this year. Watching teams of student’s work together putting everything they’ve learnt on their courses into practice proved, once again, Confetti’s courses really do equip students with the right skills to flourish in the creative industries.”

All in all, the sun shone all day, it couldn’t have been a better experience for our students and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!
