Our degree-level Event Production students got first-hand experience, learning about Robe’s industry-standard lighting equipment – the RoboSpot™ . As part of Robe’s student initiative NRG, everyone enjoyed two days of introductory training at our Nottingham campus.
The Training
The training sessions were split across two days, for a mix of student groups. Day 1 was held at the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall, an excellent backdrop for practical learning of lighting equipment and day 2 was hosted at our state-of-the-art esports venue Confetti X. Both days, students experimented with the RoboSpot™, a remote follow spot lighting system used to spotlight objects and people during events and shows. Next Robe Generation
The training was kindly provided by the Next Robe Generation (NRG), a free networking community ran by Robe. NRG’s aim is to share knowledge and experience in the UK Lighting industry with the upcoming generation of aspiring lighting professionals. As part of the initative, NRG offers a range of unique work placements and technical experiences supported by Robe UK, which a few Confetti students have been involved in.
Event Production student, Clara Sousa-Shaheed gained exclusive insights into the behind-the-scenes workings of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and represented Robe UK at the PLASA Show, the largest industry trade show in the UK. Plus, herself and peer, Becky Winrow also joined the ROBE lighting team as NRG Ambassadors for the TPi Awards, providing them with an opportunity to apply their skills at one of the largest in-person events for the touring industry.
Finally, a massive thank you to Lucy Greaves, our Work Placement Manager and Jane Monk NRG Initiative Manager for organising the opportunity. A big shout out also goes out to to Will Blackie from Robe’s team, who delivered the training to our students. This was the first time that we have had Robe visit to provide training and we are looking forward to continuing this relationship and hosting more practical sessions like this in the future.
