Jake Eden – FdSc Visual Effects Production

Winner – Best Visual Effects Production

About Jake

I joined Confetti straight from school, originally studying on the BTEC Level 3 Visual Effects College Course before moving onto the FdSc Visual Effects Production. During my time at Confetti I have learnt new skills and developed my knowledge of software and digital techniques used in visual effects production.

The degree course has been a big step up from the college level course, working to stricter deadlines and having to be more proactive and work on your own initiative, which is more reflective of industry.

I have enjoyed my time at Confetti so far, being able to experiment and develop my skills on industry-standard software and working on client briefs, including a group project remodelling a spaceship in 3D for a local film director. I plan to do the BSc Visual Effects top up degree at Confetti next year as it will enable me to further develop my skills and gain more experience ready to start my career in the VFX industry.

Jake’s Degree Showcase Work

The piece I exhibited at the Degree Showcase was called ‘Wasp’.

I created Wasp as part of the creature design module, where we had to take old methods of creature design and then replicate them using modern digital techniques. I used ZBrush to sculpt the creature and then animated it within MAYA. I then used NUKE to composite the enivornment that the wasp is in.

I’m pleased with how my project turned out and I plan to further develop the project (particularly the rendering) next year.

Winning the award for Best Visual Effects Production at the Confetti Degree Showcase Awards was great. I really enjoyed seeing the work of the other students.
