Last week, our Level 3 Technical Events students put on their end of year shows and used them as opportunities to raise money for great causes.
Our Technical Events students were tasked with independently putting on their own shows for their end of year production. They were only provided with a limited budget and had to create a show with that restriction. They successfully managed the nights – from independently booking the venue, curating artists and bands, running professional live sound, lighting, stage management, production management and artist liaison.
The first show on Monday 4 June was at The Maze and our students wanted to give back to the industry community by supporting Safe Gigs For Women – an initiative established by regular gig goers with the aim of creating a safer environment for women at gigs. They raised a healthy amount for the charity and also helped promote the cause.
Two days after, the second group held their event at Rough Trade, again wanting to give something back. They raised money for Framework – a specialist charity providing housing, support, training, care, resettlement and employment for thousands of homeless and vulnerable people each year in the East Midlands and parts of South Yorkshire.
The shows were a total success and were run very professionally, highlighting the incredible talent on show from our students.
Technical Events Course Leader Darren Harding was extremely impressed:
“From booking the venue, choosing the date, booking and aliasing with the bands and artists, marketing the event, setting up the gear and running the shows with individual technical roles, they all committed to the cause and provided an excellent service to the artists and attendees. It’s great to see students develop and grow as industry practitioners, utilising the skills and experience they have gained from the course.”
