Exhibiting the work of the next generation of creative and technical talent, the Confetti Degree Showcase 2014 has been heralded by many as the best yet. An opportunity for industry professionals to browse work and discover for themselves why Confetti graduates are the best; the event was attended by over 100 people, all keen to see amazing work across TV, film, music and gaming.
As day turned to evening, students and their family and friends gathered to discover the hotly anticipated award-winners across each course.
Hosted by Notts TV presenter Becky Sheeran, the awards recognised excellence and have historically rewarded one lucky student with the ‘Student of the Year’ award; leading to a year-long internship with the Confetti Media Group. (CMG)
In an exciting twist, CMG Managing Director Craig Chettle announced that four students would be receiving internships this year.
“As it’s our 20th year, I’m pleased to be offering four internships”, he said. “The talent this year has been exceptional and this is reflected in tonight’s awards.”
BAFTA award-winning actress Vicky McClure presented the award for ‘Best Short Film’ and said: “I’ve watched all of the nominees films today and it’s exceptional work that’s going on here. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, if you want to work in TV & film, Confetti is the place to study!”
Legendary Games founder Ewan Lamont who is taking on ‘Games Technology student of the year’ Nick Starkey said: “I cannot wait for a student to join the Legendary Games team; the quality of the work I’ve seen today has blown me away.”
Matthew Burrows winner of ‘Music technology of the year’ and ‘student of the year’ can’t wait to start his internship with Confetti Media Group. “It’s such a privilege to be here”, he said. “It’s so nice to study at a place where people actually believe in you. I absolutely love it at Confetti and I’m so happy.”
As Notts TV’s Jamie Brindle presented TV & Film student of the year, he said: “To emphasise what Jurgis said; I believe that whatever your discipline is, award ceremonies like this prove that if you work hard you can achieve anything! It is truly inspiring.”
The four interns will begin their roles in the next few weeks and are all excited to be working in creative industry companies.
FdSc TV & Film student of the year Abbey Plumb will be joining film & post-production company Spool. “I can’t believeI’ve won,” she said. “I really feel like the under-dog, as I came onto this course not knowing anything and it’s with the support of the teachers and fellow students that I have achieved this!”
