The Nottingham Panthers are a British professional ice hockey club and members of the Elite Ice Hockey League. The Motorpoint Arena is the Panthers home, just a short walk away from our Confetti campus. We’ve steadily developed a partnership with the Nottingham Panthers over the past 12 months which has seen students get involved in the club’s promotion and the production of their media broadcasts.
BA (Hons) Content Creation students have been working with the Panthers’ Media Manager, Chris Ellis, producing content for coverage on the team’s social channels as well as our own. The partnership sees students given access to Panthers games where they can practice and experiment with the skills learnt on their course.
We caught up with our Course Leader for Content Creation, Jacky Gurr, about the collaboration, she said:
“Our Content Creation students have really enjoyed attending the Panthers home matches and contributing to their social media coverage. They’ve come up with some great dynamic content and look forward to seeing more of their work in Panthers social media next match season.”
Panthers Media Manager, Chris Ellis, added:
“It has been fantastic working with the Content Creation students at Confetti.
“We are very proud of our link-up with Confetti who are an outstanding education provider in the city.
“Our aims for social media as an organisation tie-in superbly with Confetti’s Content Creation course.
“We have already worked on some projects with them and look forward to continuing that work going forward.”

It’s not just Content Creation students working with the Panthers, our Film and TV degree courses are getting in on the action too!
BSc (Hons) Television Production Technology and BSc (Hons) Film Production Technology students are working with Visionmix TV, a Sheffield-based production company who film and arrange the live streams of the Panthers home matches. With the support of our Head of Talent Development, Alison Whitlock, and our Education team, students have been ‘Doing It For Real’ in Observation roles, with some working as paid Camera Operators.
Film Production Technology student, Ben Wadsworth is one of the students working for Visionmix TV. A self-starter, Ben jumped at the chance to pick up some hands-on industry experience through our exclusive work-based opportunities, he said:
“I was really pleased to work for Visionmix and got my shot after reaching out to Confetti.
“It was wild to throw myself into the deep end but it has been one of my greatest decisions. I’ve learnt so much about the production of live sports as well as developing my basic camera skills.
“I’m so much better as a filmmaker now because of this chance and it has greatly boosted my confidence in myself and my work.”
Josanne Burnham, Producer for Visionmix Productions has been working closely with our Head of Talent Development, Alison Whitlock, to arrange these incredible worthwhile work experience opportunities, she said:
“At Visionmix Productions we’ve been really impressed by the quality and enthusiasm of the graduates and students which Confetti have sent us to be Camera Operators.
“They’ve been working on live streams at ice hockey home games for the Nottingham Panthers. An extremely fast paced sport which requires a lot of concentration and skill. They’ve all hit the ground running and picked things up quickly.
“We’re pleased to be able to offer these paid positions to Confetti students as they start their careers in production.”
Incidentally, our friends at Notts TV recently announced they’re bringing more local sport to the channel. Available on Virgin 159 and Freeview 7, the local tv channel is based within the same building as Confetti HQ, with an entrance located on Beck Street.
Channel Manager, Chris Breese, and the Notts TV team have entered into a new partnership with professional ice hockey club, the Nottingham Panthers which will see selected home games screened on the channel.
Congratulations to Notts TV on securing yet more great content ‘Championing Notts’ – we’re looking forward to watching Panther games filmed by Confetti students at home on telly!
Find out more about the partnership on the Notts TV website and when the latest games will be aired on Notts TV.
