During lockdown, two Confetti students have continued their work placements remotely to produce a brilliant app ‘Report It’ for Nottingham Mencap.
A prime example of Confetti students ‘Doing It For Real’, Level 3 Games Technology students Kacper and Oliver have produced an app for the Nottingham-based organisation, whilst at home during lock-down.
The app – ‘Report It‘ – available for PC and android mobile – is designed to support adults with learning difficulties in the identifying and reporting of learning disability hate crimes.
Karen Aspley is the Smile! Stop Hate Crime Coordinator for Nottingham Mencap, and she was blown away by the students’ work.
“It has been a great experience working with the students from Confetti. I have been surprised by the high standard of the work produced and the maturity of the students. I would definitely work with Confetti again.
It was great to see the students develop over the period of the project. How they learned, adapted and developed as their interest in their work deepened. Nottingham Mencap felt it was a win-win situation as we have gained a valuable resource that will be of great practical use to our users.”
Kacper himself was thrilled to be a part of the project, and has learned a great deal from the process, enjoying the extra work to focus on during lockdown:
“I’m grateful to Nottingham Mencap and Lucy Greaves for giving me the chance to work alongside them and create an app that helps people with learning disabilities understand hate crime and what it is. I have learnt many things from this work placement that has allowed me to improve my skills as an app/game developer, this has given me a great insight as to how it would feel working in the games industry. I could not have done the app without Oliver as he played the critical role in making a section of the art.”
