Wednesday January 16, 2019

Confetti student Melissa Cotton has recently made her debut on BBC Radio Derby, forging an exciting start to her musical career. The Level 3 Music Performance and Songwriting student sang an original piece, ‘Your Eyes’, live on the radio station on Wednesday 2 January, gaining great exposure for her unique work and performance. You can listen to Melissa’s radio debut here.

We spoke to Melissa about her experience of performing, to which she let us in on her wealth of experience, explaining “I have performed live many times at gigs and local festivals, as well as the more recent BBC Radio Derby performance which was great. I also currently host 6 open mic nights and have around 1 or 2 other gigs per week. I love performing to an audience now, and I get the opportunity to meet so many nice people that are also incredibly talented musicians through open mics and other events.”

“I love performing to an audience now!”

On the subject of her course, Melissa explains she “saw what Confetti could provide me and it excited me far more than other colleges. The tutors are all friendly, understanding and inspiring – half way through my second year, I’m confident I made the right choice picking Confetti for college!”

Our full interview with Melissa will feature in the next edition of The Wire magazine coming out later this year.

Melissa’s tutor, Naim Cortazzi, spoke highly of her talent and work ethic, stating “Melissa is a unique singer and prolific song writer. Her songs transport you to the pristine but haunting, melancholic world of classic David Lynch. Armed, literally with a spell book of songs and a ukulele, Melissa is revitalising the Americana indie ballad.”

“Melissa is a unique singer and prolific songwriter.”

We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Melissa in the music industry!
