We’re excited to announce that we’ll be returning to Nottingham’s favourite festival, Splendour – on Saturday 21 July!
You can expect a lot to be happening all over Wollaton Park – including on our Confetti stage which will again host a wealth of musical talent.
Confetti students will gain invaluable industry insight working across many aspects of the festival from crewing to recording the performances for Notts TV.
Last year’s Splendour Festival was a record-breaker for Confetti in terms of student engagement. We had over 120 students from across both our college and degree courses working in over 200 different roles throughout the weekend – meaning they could gain experience in various aspects of festival production throughout the day. Altogether our students undertook over 1435 hours of work experience during Splendour 2017! And there are many reasons to be excited about 2018 as we’re looking to top that record!
Headliner + more acts announced!
This year, the multi-talented singer-songwriter Paloma Faith – one of the most successful British female artists of the last decade – has been revealed as the main headliner.
Known for her high-energy live sets, Paloma has been releasing music for the last decade and went straight to number one with her latest album ‘The Architect’ last year. A former Brit Award winner, Paloma has been nominated once again for British Female Solo Artist at this year’s Brits.
Returning to Splendour 10 years on are The Charlatans. with a back catalogue of 13 top 40 studio albums to their name and hits including “The Only One I Know” and “One to Another”, the band will generate plenty of excitement for the 25,000 festival goers. They’ll be joined on the main stage with Internationally acclaimed music artist Marc Almond – one half of the electro due Soft Cell; Björn Again who’ll have the crowd singing along to belters from the very best of ABBA and a special guest to be announced.
Nottingham lad Ady Suleiman, who came to our new Contemporary Music and Live Events to record with BBC Radio 1Xtra, will bring a smooth blend of neo-soul from his debut album ‘Memories’. The opportunity to open the special 10th birthday bash of Splendour will once again be made possible by the winner of Nusic’s Future Sound of Nottingham.
The Stranglers have been announced as the Confetti Stage headliner and have a vast catalogue of material spanning more than four decades. The influential quartet has an incredible 17 top 40 albums to their name and are probably best known for hit singles “Golden Brown” and “Peaches”. Performing at Rock City earlier this month, the punk-era legends went down a storm with the crowd.
Internationally acclaimed music artist Marc Almond was one half of the electro duo Soft Cell. The band’s cover of Gloria Jones’ Northern Soul classic “Tainted Love” was number one worldwide; listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the record that spent the longest time in the Billboard Top 100 chart in the US; won best single at the first Brit Awards in 1981; and is one of the UK’s best selling singles of all time.
Joining The Strangers on the Confetti Stage
Embrace, with six top 10 singles including England’s official football World Cup 2006 song “World at Your Feet”, are currently amid a UK tour with a brand new album; energetic, feel-good vibes from indie pop band Peace, hot on the heels of their latest studio album ‘Kindness Is The New Rock And Roll’; and six piece folk-rock Mansfield crew Ferocious Dog, with an ever-growing legion of fans, have also been revealed to perform on the Confetti Stage. Confetti band CLONK is on the bill after winning this year’s Trent Rocks. Toploader, Ashfields and Don’t Forget Rupert complete our stage.
