On Thursday 13 July, we welcomed Confetti college students, their friends and family to our annual showcase, where we displayed all of their outstanding work and celebrated their achievements from the 2022/23 academic year.
The showcase took place across several spaces in the Confetti campus and featured the exceptional work of our students studying on a range of courses across our Music, Media and Games curriculum.
At reception, our Level 3 Music Performance & Songwriting students greeted our visitors with a variety of live music performances throughout the day. There were a number of different music genres showcased to friends and family, highlighting the diverse talent Confetti students share on instruments like piano, drums, vocals, acoustic and electric guitar.
Lemar Campell, artist name Malchijah, shared his rap and sing-jay style with Celebrate guests, playing them a mixture of Hip-Hop, Reggae and Dancehall. Here’s what he had to say about his performance at the event:
“It’s always a joy for me when I perform and I’m so glad that I’ve been able to bring my energy at Confetti, regardless of where the venue was placed, that didn’t stop me from energising the audience with my style and it was heart-warming to see the unification and togetherness of each and every one on that day. The venue was a humble success in my opinion and hopefully, they’ll be more opportunities for myself and everyone to perform in the near future.”
“I had an amazing time performing at Celebrate 2023. The kind of music I make is inspired by a range of different genres and artists such as Jorja Smith and Billie Eilish. I performed some originals that I hope to be releasing someday.”– Lara Grant (Artist name Lara Elise Grant) L3 Music Performance Student
Take a look at some great photos from the performances below:
Many classrooms were opened up to visitors, with eye-catching exhibition boards, models and videos curated by our college students on display. We also gave guests the opportunity to try out our facilities, including the green screen studio using broadcast-quality video cameras, professional lighting gear and virtual reality headsets.
Over at Confetti X, our very own esports team, Confetti Arrows, got stuck into the action showing their impressive Overwatch 2 and Rocket League skills which attracted a number of excited spectators. Guests also took in several digital exhibitions, featuring artwork from our games and graphic design students.
During the day, course teachers presented awards and prizes to mark the celebration of their students’ achievements. The quality of work showcased from the day was outstanding and the level of talent seen in our college-level students is just the beginning of their creative futures.
The day culminated in some fantastic live performances in our Metronome venue featuring DJs, singers and bands. This was our Level 3 Technical Events students time to shine as they put their learning into practice and helped run the production.
In case you missed it, here are the highlights from the event:
We caught up with our Head of Further Education, Nathan Simpson, about this year’s Celebrate event. Here’s what he had to say:
“Celebrate 2023 was our grandest and most ambitious to date. There was fantastic representation across all course’s & vocational areas, levels 1-3 as well as our English & Maths provision. The event spanned our Digital media hub, Metronome and Confetti X. Students organised live performances, productions, showcases, tournaments and much more.”
