We spoke to alumnus and Maximo Park songwriter/vocalist Duncan Lloyd

Duncan Lloyd from Maximo Park

At Confetti, we’re proud to have some amazing alumni working around the world. One of our former students, musician Duncan Lloyd, studied between 2000 and 2002 and is part of popular bands – Mercury Prize-nominated Maxïmo Park and Nano Kino.

Duncan came to study a foundation degree at the start of the millennium after a local friend in his hometown in Derby recommended Confetti to him – looking for somewhere that would ready him for a life in music.

“I’d done a little recording but only really basic home recording stuff so wanted to be able to learn how to do it more professionally. I wanted to be recording as soon possible and this course was perfect to kick start that for me.”

Duncan chose the two year course having previously completed a degree in fine art which left him with mounting student debt. In fact, this turned out to be a smart decision for his music career.

In just two years, Duncan explains how he learnt everything from mic’ing techniques, mixing, remixing and sequencing to recording music from all different genres.

“I also developed my confidence in working with groups & as an individual. I took away a lot of knowledge that led me to recording my own bands, Maxïmo Park & Nano Kino & I still use those skills in my studio today. It’s fair to say that the experience I gained at Confetti has been invaluable.”

Maxïmo Park & Nano Kino are both popular British bands, performing at festivals and venues across the UK and around the globe. We are proud that one of our alumni is part of their journey – we look forward to seeing what they do next!
