Your Student Christmas Party – Retronome – Line Up Announced!

Monday November 26, 2018

This year you’re invited to ‘Retronome’ – the Confetti Christmas Party – on Wednesday 12 December.

Our Technical Events college students are planning and running the event.

The theme this year is 80s and 90s retro, and it’s set to be the best yet! Legwarmers, jelly sandals, dungarees; you name it, someone will be wearing it.

And it’s not all dressing up – there’s an amazing lineup of bands who will be performing, DJs, gaming tournaments, a silent disco and a great selection of food. The lineup will be confirmed soon so keep your eyes peeled on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

All drinks bought will include a 20% student discount!

However you like to enjoy yourself, we’ve got it covered.

Let’s have a look at some of this year’s confirmed performers:

Mark Pearson (Music Tutor/DJ)

We’re delighted to end the night with a DJ set from Confetti music tutor and professional DJ Mark Pearson. Usually found releasing underground music on various reputable labels and playing stripped back grooves in dark rooms, he’s switching it up with a polished set of 80s and 90s dance hits.

The Bodega’s Indie Wednesdays DJ

We know the feeling when you go out with your mates to a club and hate every single song. Prefer a bit of Arctic Monkeys over My Nu Leng? Foals over Andy C? Nottingham’s biggest Indie night DJ comes to our Christmas party!

On the playlist, expect tunes from Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Bombay Bicycle Club, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Courteeners, Everything Everything, Foals, Gorillaz, Hot Chip, Jamie T, Kasabian, The Killers, The Kooks, The Libertines, Mystery Jets, Oasis, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, The Strokes, Two Door Cinema Club, The Vaccines, The 1975 and loads more…

C Hayez Raps

C Hayez Raps is a multi-talented rapper whose main influences are Eminem, Linkin Park, Twenty One Pilots, The Fresh Prince, B.o.B and more. Connor is currently studying Level 3 Music Performance and If you enjoy his lyrical flow on the night, we recommend following his Facebook page as he’s currently mastering an album. Watch out for his release!

Marvin’s Revenge

Marvin’s Revenge is an alternative rock band from Derby who will be mixing original material with some covers. These Level 3 students have been getting rave reviews, but listen for yourself on their SoundCloud.

Silent Disco

Picky with your music? Want to switch between a few options on the go? Well luckily for you we’re holding a silent disco in the Metronome Bar where you’ll be able to select between three channels on wireless headphones! Expect a range of retro classics from the 80s and 90s from Music Tutor/DJ Tom Darke, Games Tutor/DJ Pete Salt and one more who’ll be announced shortly.

Thomas Dobrzynski

The main stage will be opened with a DJ set from Music Technology student Thomas. Make sure you arrive on time to catch this set, getting you into the party vibe.

Battle of the Bands

Want to watch fellow students battle it out with staff on the mic? If so, you’re in luck. We’ll be holding a fully fledged ‘battle of the bands’ between our students and staff for you to be wowed by (or make funny Instagram stories about on the sly).

See what we got up to at last year’s Christmas Party below, or read our review.

When and where?
80s/90s retro night of fun will be held at Metronome, and begins at 7pm and ends at 11pm for all students. Please make sure you make appropriate travel arrangements – whether that’s a parent collecting you, making that last bus or sharing a taxi with friends.

Tickets for this event have now sold out.

On the night
We hope to see some 80s/90s-themed attire, but no masks please – giant wigs, on the other hand, will be welcomed. Over 18s will be limited to 4 drinks.

You’ll need to bring your Christmas party ticket, Confetti student card and if you’re over 18 and want to have an alcoholic drink – as standard you’ll need your ID.
