Whether you’re about to start your Confetti journey or enter your final year, have a look at a few events you can look forward to getting involved in!
Hockley Hustle – 8 October
Around 250 local acts from Nottingham will be on show at this year’s festival, taking place across 25 venues, including The Bodega where we’ll be hosting the Confetti Live stage. Expect amazing performances from past and present students, and artists from our industry partners Denizen. The festival has grown since its first event in 2006 – raising over £100,000 for charity since the first edition.
Hockley Hustle is well known for being a springboard for Nottingham musical acts with the likes of Jake Bugg, Saint Raymond and Liam Bailey all performing at the Hustle, so watch out for the next rising stars of Nottingham.
As a student at Confetti, you have the opportunity to gain valuable experience working at Hockley Hustle – applying skills you learn on your course to support the event. Last year not only did some of our students perform, but many worked as part of the official film crew and stage management teams. Our students even created the promo, produced by TV Production student Ryan Peck (above).
Industry Week – March
The biggest event in the Confetti calendar, Industry Week is not to be missed. Tips, tricks and insider knowledge are provided by some of the UK’s most influential practitioners during a week where you’ll swap your timetable for workshops, lectures and masterclasses from names across Film, TV, Music and Games.
Have a look at our 2017 guest line up which included documentary filmmaker Nick Broomfield, visual hip hop turntablist DJ Yoda, and PlayStation Access Channel Manager Hollie Bennett. Check out our highlights from this year’s Industry Week.
Degree Showcase – June
The Confetti Degree Showcase brings together the work of the next generation creative talent, giving you the chance to enjoy the amazing work of our talented degree students before they venture out into the industry. If you’re a final year degree student it gives you the chance to showcase your skills to industry guests as well as friends, family and the general public. See the work of our talented graduates in our online Degree Show portfolio.
Splendour Festival – July
Come to Nottingham’s biggest outdoor event at Wollaton Park where this year, a record 25,000 people celebrated the festival’s tenth year with amazing performances from Kaiser Chiefs, Busted and Billy Ocean amongst many others.
This year we had over 120 students from across both college and degree courses working in over 209 different roles. Our students worked hard both in the days leading up to the festival and throughout the day to make sure stages were set and some of the world’s biggest names in music were ready to perform. The Live & Technical Events students helped set up the stages, and ran the Acoustic Rooms stage on the day, while the TV & Film Production students covered the whole event through filming and photography.
Celebrate – July
Every year we host an exhibition to showcase the work of our college-level students over the academic year. This year we took over Nottingham’s Creative Quarter, starting the day off at Broadway Cinema where we held the Celebrate Short Film Festival. A range of films, documentaries and music videos were enjoyed by students, staff, family and friends.
Next, our Music Performance, Music Technology and Live Events students came together to put on an amazing free music festival at Rough Trade. The public were treated to DJ sets, incredible live bands and amazing custom stage lighting.
The day concluded with the public being invited to The National Videogame Arcade to test a variety of games created by our Games Technology students, ranging from Tabletop to Virtual Reality. Our students’ Digital Media, VFX and Gaming portfolios wowed the public, giving them an idea of what the next generation of Games Art and Visual Effects students can create.
If you are studying a college-level course at Confetti you have this amazing event to look forward to, giving you the chance to show your friends and family the hard work you’ve put in throughout the year.
It’s a fantastic day and a great way to end the academic year!
